I've gotten UKM Speech!!!
There are pretty much to update here. But since the photos are not ready yet, I decided to post about my Uni offer which I had just gotten last week.
Now, just one more thing, except for those health science student. Wahaha. People will have the wrong expression that it is something like Translation or Linguistic or whatever. Not many people is familiar with it. Actually, it is something like physiotherapy. Just that, ours emphasize on speech and hearing. :)
UKM Speech is good and many graduates will be employed in Singapore. It is the first university in South East Asia that offers this course. Also, it only takes 20 students this year. Out of 89 applicants in Malaysia. :)
There is an association. MASH(Malaysian Association of Speech and Hearing) Wow. Things got better and better. With a grateful heart, I thank God and all the people that has given me lots of encouragement and support and advice throughout my application.:) Thank to Mum and Dad too, for never against my decision though they were worried. I still remember how Mum cried with me seeing the offer letter! :D
I have been applying lots of universities, both local and overseas; private and government. Biomedical Sciences, Dentistry, and...how did I know about Speech Pathology??!
Hah, Thanks to my Boss' family. I love kids, I am patient I guess.... I was teaching in a nursery as a teacher for five months. Half way my job, Caryn came home and she got a chance to talk to me. She knew I love the job that allows me to interact with people. Some how, before local U application starts, we mentioned about this course.
I still feel that it is God's arrangement that I am brought to this course. Caryn has a colleague that used to work as a speech therapist in Sunway Hospital. She left after three years and open a small clinic, meeting appointments. I am so glad, I used to talk to Mr Ching about this course before I apply overseas. But he is scared that I may not have good prospect in Malaysia when graduate. Thus, I took his advice to apply Biomedic in UK. I got really happy the time I found out every hospital has at least one speech therapist!!!! And, the more I read about this course, I got more inrested in it. Its work--well, deal with kids with autism, speaking problems, communication problems and etc. I also have the chance to work with adults with such problems too. Well, you may think it is not as professional as Dentist or Doctor. I used to struggle on this issue with my parents as well. But then, soon, i became to realise, maybe that is not what matter. I can work with kids, I can help kids, just like Mrs Chua has told me, it is nice. Talking to Mrs Chua definitely helped a lot. I became firm with it.
I am kinda brave to put Speech Pathology as my first choice in both UPU and USM. I didn't care for the rests, just simply put. After that, I have a couple of interviews on Biomedical Sciences in private and overseas Universities, I did not have time for Speech interview at all. And, Praise the LORD! I got the call for interview(Many of my friends did not get). The night before the interview in Penang, I flashed through some web pages on speech and UKM. Guess what!!! The interview, it was a two-session interview, both Written and Speaking. The moment I got my paper, thank God, they are what I have read last night! I did very well of course. Thank God again, the interviewers made me relax in the second session. I got some compliments on the things i wrote, and my experience working in a nursery gave me credits. I went out from the room with a big smile cause of what the interviewers said---wait for the good news--:D
And I am impressed by how brave and daring and stupid I was, to refuse going to Kelantan for my another Speech interview. Parents were not happy with it, but I insisted I do not want to have my university life there alone plus, it is not an honour degree.. I got some nagging from them after hearing many of my friends not getting the calls for interview from USM. But, nah, doesn't matter d now..
Then, the waiting months are torturing for parents. They kept asking for my back-up plans, but surprisingly, I was not worried at all. I had a good feeling I would get it. And........not to mention the information I gathered for "Back-UP" to show my parents... AHHHH~~~~~
THANK GOD!!!! PRAISE THE LORD!!!I GOT THE OFFER. ONLY ONE OFFER! UKM SPEECH PATHOLOGY!!
Mum shared this good news with me. And Mrs Chua next. They are all very happy for me. Another thing is that I am among the minority who get my first choice in my class, my school!!

I would like to ask that if i going to put as one of my choices during 2nd time upu, is it possible that i will get the course? (of course, i din't go for interview too). they choose only people that go for interview only??? thanks!
ReplyDeletethat means i don't have any chance dy?! :(
ReplyDelete2nd UPU ļ¼ after our results come out, we can kemaskini our upu. (only matriculation students).
only interviewers will be selected ar? is it applied for all courses?
Owh, that i am not sure. So sorry. :) But you can try. :) And yea, for speech, diet and nutri, only interviewees will be taken...
Deletehye tiffany. if you dont mind, i want to ask you the questions that will be asked during the interview session
ReplyDeletefyi, i been selected to attend the interview for SLP course in UKM.
for writing session also i dont have the idea what kind of questions will be asked
hope you dont mind to share all those things with me :) :) p/s help me pleaseeeee
Hey, sorry, i have been away in thailand for a few days. Just saw your comments. Can you email me if you have any questions? And i did mention about this year interview in my other post in this blog. i hope you noticed.. :) God bless. :)
DeleteHi tiffany,i'm a spm leaver of 2012...i'm interesting in study speech pathology...and now i going to study for form 6..so how many CGPA just can this course????
ReplyDeleteYou can refer to quansheng net. they have statistics for every course in different years, well, My year, we have 10 chinese and 6 malays. all the chinese scores 3.75. except for me and my roommate, 3.67. But we are lucky cause we are the first batch to come in through interview, so, our performance during interview saved us. Just, study hard. :) you try your best and if it is God's plan for you, you will get this. Perhaps in the one and a half year time in form6 you might found your passion in other field as well? Good luck and work hard. God bless. :)
Deletehi again, referring what u had answered me before, it's clearly i can't get speech pathology anymore :( How u think about audiolody? coz it is quite 'leng men' than other bio courses. i'm quite worry about its future. do u know how many chinese and malays for audiology? sorry for asking that...
ReplyDeleteErm, why do you think it you can't get it? Anyway, speech and audio, for the first two years, aka frost three sem, we are having classes together. There are not many Chinese in the course but there are even more jobs available for ukm audio, this is because there are many audiologist company all around Malaysia. You can try googled about it.
DeleteBut I would suggest you to try looking online to see whether you would like the course. Cause these courses are all related to people. For audio, there are also machines and devices to control. Actually, any course in health science has certain similarities which is working with people with special needs. So, you can maybe try look for different courses online to see whether you will like it. You have to NOT HATE the course you choose, cause doing Sth you don't love for the rest of your life is really difficult. But, I believe if you do not hate the job, love and passion for the job can be generated? Not sure is it the right word.:P
DeleteAll the best in your path in choosing the right course bah..
Don't let the Malay Chinese ratio in the course be a factor in deciding which course, Uni is really a time when you start to expand your social circle. Everyone you meet in your life, despite the race and culture, there must be a reason God wants you to meet them and wants you in their life. :) and, dont have to worry cause in Uni, you do not only mix around with your coursemates, there are clubs, and cafe and everything else. You will spend time with other courses friends as well. So, choose what you really like. God will make way for you. Pray for it, :) god bless. Btw, you could email me if you have more thighs to ask. I don't check my blog everyday, :)

1. your course at UKM was 4 years...full time? How was it like? Did they have part time weekend classes?
Hi, Yes.
ReplyDeleteI am not sure what you mean.. but erm, stressful but fun..?
No. It is a full time degree course. Master wise, it's more like research based and not clinical based if not mistaken. Not sure tho.
TQ. :)
hi tiffany, i'm a linguistics student right now. Do you think linguistics and speech pathology have some relation? i really want to take up master's in speech pathology in the future if possible.
ReplyDeleteHi Tiffany, i'm currently a linguistics student so just wanna ask, is there any relation between linguistics and speech pathology? i really want to further my master's in speech pathology if possible.
ReplyDeleteHi Tiffany, i'm currently a linguistics student and i'm just wondering if u can know any relation between linguistics and speech pathology? i'm thinking of furthering my master's in speech pathology if my grades allow me.

Deletetiffany8hun@gmail.com
Hi, have you finished your study ? Was it as good as you thought it would be ? Did you ever feel like you should have done something else ?
ReplyDeleteHI!!!! YES! Better than I expected. Ive been working for one year plus. Everyday is still a learning opportunity for me. I love what I do. NO, if i were to choose again, I would choose the same, even though the path was not an easy and smooth going one. Too much sleepless nights, too much stress, so much tears; but now looking at what I do, and how the kids improve bits by bits, parents' appreciation and all. IT IS ALL WORTH IT. Do write me an email, if you need further conversation on this. MORE THAN WILLING TO SHARE.
DeleteLots of love.
XOXO
Hi Ms Tiffany, i've written an email to you, do you received my email ?
ReplyDeletecan I have your email address? Hoping so, so that i can ask you further information about speech pathologist courses ššš.
