Dissection~3rd JULY 2011
I had my first dissection lesson in my life.I decided not to take my breakfast, fearing that I might throw up during the lesson.
What welcome me were the white mouse.Sir Ching told us they're all albino.Well,Red eyes, pink nose, pink palms,feet...everything seemed so cute,except.....the long and fat tail..CREEPY!
Before starting to dissect,Sir gave us some lecture about the dos and don'ts.Well,I had butterfly in my stomach.Luckily, the caring guys in class, they helped everyone to chloroformed the mice.We just had to take our own mice from the tin.My teammate did it.I dare not touch the mouse.I didn't even dare to pin its limbs on the dissecting board.I feel the pain for it...TT
Sir used our mouse as example to direct the other classmates to start our challenging and new experience.Well, firstly,we peeled off its skin.So far so good.No blood as I thought it would be.Cooperation is really important between you and your teammates.I had to thank Mom for her 30-year-old dissecting set.A pair of forceps and scissors is necessary!
Then, the flesh. It is quite challenging too.If you want your mice nice, without blood oozing out from the artery...We are instructed by Sir to avoid cutting the veins, arteries and capillaries.Again, there is chemical between my teammate and I.We manage to cut it nicely.Just, sadly, although I made sure my teammate and I were gentle towards it, some how,our mouse got heart attack suddenly. Its heart pumped really fast and uneven.....and......it went to Heaven. It is good,by the way,as it doesn't has to bear any more pain like its other friends.Thank God for that.
Then, the last layer of its flesh and......ORGANS exposed. It is when I started feeling sick cause of the nauseating stench.Sir said our human organs smelt like that too...YUCKS!But,I still, tried to be strong, moved its intestine out and arranged it according to the diagram in the book. The tiny but long small intestine, rather large ceacum, urinary bladder, large and fat liver, tiny heart and lungs, cute kidney and so on.This is when, the blood started oozing out.....and the intense stench of the organs.Ewie,I felt like throwing up again.Anyway,it is interesting to learn thing like that, although it is cruel,to kill a life,in the name of science.
Then,we also cut its skull.Really hard.I could hear the "crek" sound. Then, brain was exposed.Tiny...too.
Here marked the ending of our dissecting lesson. Some guys in class followed Sir to bury those great little white mouse which had brought us an interesting lesson, while the rest of us did the cleaning task.Again, the stench wafted my nose.I felt sick again and again.
What is funny is,I was paranoid as Sir kept repeating there could be many germs following us home.I used antiseptic to clean my hands, spec, bottle, file and all. Then,I even washed my clothes with my own hand.Lastly,I had a really long and clean bath!Hahah.
Thank God,for today's lesson.Thank You,for helping me to finish my dissection without any accidents.Thank God too,for Your wonderful blessings that I learn to be cooperative to fulfill my task.
May those tiny creatures rest in peace....Amen!
